Sipping Wine in the Valley ~ Naramata, Canada

The sun is out and the breeze is warm.
It finally feels like summer in Canada!

What better way to spend an almost-summer day than touring the Okanagan Valley, sipping wine along the way?

We decided the best option would be to join a wine tour, mainly to avoid designating one of us as a driver (No drinking and driving folks!),
but also to make sure we saw the best of the multitude of wineries now covering the rolling hills of the Okanagan (British Columbia, Canada).
We were immediately drawn to a husband & wife tour company whose passion is to share their knowledge of wine and show off the Valley’s best-kept secrets (mom & pop wineries that visitors to the Valley may not always know about).
Experience Wine Tours treated us like a king and queen, picked us up in an luxury van, right from the front doorstep of our accommodation.

Matt Wentzell, the owner of Experience Wine Tours, knows his wines, in fact, he just came in third in Canada in an international wine tasting competition! His passion definitely shone through as he took us to Naramata’s finest wineries: La Frenz, Laughing Stock (a must see, by appointment only), Clean Slate & PoplarGrove Cheese just to name a few.

We had a lovely surprise at noon when he set a picnic table for us and the 8 others who were also on the 7-hour tour.
Matt’s taste in fine wines certainly translates to his taste in fine cheeses, cold cuts and spreads.  We couldn’t have even imagined the gourmet smorgasbord that awaited us, even if we had tried.

As we slowly walked along the sun-kissed vines, we knew this would not be the last time we join Matt & Shannon on an adventure through the Valley.

Back to the Coffee Grind ~ Calgary, Alberta

It is January...  decorations have been taken down, family members have left, it’s time to put on the coffee and get back to the grind.

New years resolutions are easy to make…  it’s the following through that proves year after year to be the problem. One way I’ve found to help keep my commitments is by surrounding myself with people who want the same things as me, and who can keep me accountable.
Bloggers aren’t on every street corner (although street photographer bloggers can be found on quite a few... keep an eye out for the cameras), but I know a place where many unite!
I sit down with a cup of coffee and go there to recharge, reignite my passion, and get inspired by others who love the same things as me.
This place is called is called Bloglovin’, a networking site for blog writers and lovers, where you can follow the blogs you like!
Some of my inspirations include "Mr & Mrs Globe Trot" and "...sending postcards", both of whom I discovered in Bloglovin’s Travel section (where… I might add, "Savage Travels & Vanilla Lattes" may also be found).

So take a look, sign up, give me a “follow” and a comment below, and I just might follow back! ;)

And drop by The House Coffee Sanctuary to see where I took most of today's pictures.

LOST CAUSE MEDIA ~ Calgary Alberta Canada

Savage Travels is also involved in greater things! Follow our adventures by joining us on facebook or on our website: www.LostCauseMedia.org

We a team of two who are passionate about all the little known good causes and social activism that exist around the world.

Rob, an economist, and Kristin, a linguist, want to share what they see and learn as they explore the globe, starting in their own backyard, sharing near-forgotten stories and documenting the lives of everyday heroes.

To date, their work has appeared in "Enroute", "Avenue", "Where", "Welcome" and "Cleo" magazines.

If you have a story that needs telling, whether your cause is almost lost or just beginning, addressing the issue of human trafficking, homelessness, women's rights or language teaching, we would love to hear from you and help you bring your cause to life!
One way we accomplish our mission is by accepting paid photographic assignments with families, couples & businesses wanting more than great photos -- they want to make the world a better place! We work with our paying clients to determine which of our favorite causes they would like to adopt, and we determine our cost structure based on the requirements of the type of story we decide together would best fit that cause. Be a part of our mission. Help us tell their story.

Scandalous Love Stories & Royal Deaths ~ Tours, France (Part III)

(For Part 1, click here)
Part of taking University of Calgary's Renaissance Literature study abroad class
has involved visiting artists' mansions (Rabelais' Devinière, Ronsard's Possonnière, DaVinci's Clos Lucé)...
...and majestic french castles speckled across the Vallée de la Loire (Forteresse Royale de Chinon & Château d'Amboise).
What better place to learn about royal "love" stories, dreadful deaths, and even a few scandals...
...than in the very locations they took place?
It's hard to believe I still have many more castles to visit before the end of class!
So stay posted...
...and check out Châteaux Tourisme's website to plan your own castle exploring adventures.

Hats & Scarves & Prints... Oh My! ~ Paris, France

Now that I'm based out of Tours, France for a month, Paris is only one hour away by high speed SNCF, which costs approximately 60 euro for a return trip.

So why not enjoy some french fashion and Paris street photography for a week-end?

European Beauty ~ One Month in Tours, France, Part II

(For Part 1, click here
It would take a few thousand words to express the beauty of the people and buildings of Tours, France.
Since I don't have the time to write multiple paragraphs of praise...
...here are some pictures instead.

To leave you with a little taste of my month here in Tours...
Here is what I get to enjoy during my class breaks: one of Université François Rabelais' courtyards.

So It Begins ~ Tours, France, Part I

I decided to participate in a month-long course offered overseas by the University of Calgary
After a two-plane-two-train-one-taxi ride, I spent my first free day wandering the beautiful cobblestone streets of our base: Tours, France.
Lonely Planet's "Europe on a Shoestring" describes Tours as a village "hovering somewhere between the style of Paris and the conservative sturdiness of central France" and is "smart, solidly bourgeois kind of place, filled with wide 18th-century boulevards, parks and imposing public buildings, as well as a busy university of some 25,000 students.
I am now one of those students, and will be for the next 30 days.
Stay posted for tales of the tallest castles and most remote French monasteries as I explore the Loire Valley.
You can find "SavageTravels" on Instagram (or Statigram) to see more pictures!
